After his successful one-man shows in Paris and Strasbourg, Alfred Chircop exhibited two remarkable paintings at the 18th Salon De La Rochelle and obtained the gold medal and the special medal of the city of La Rochelle.
The president of the Salon Facade Altantique, Mr Salort, who was a member of the jury, invited the Maltese artist to exhibit the same works in Nantes.
Mr Chircop was the only foreign artist invited. The 12-member jury granted him a medal. Those two works, which brought him three medals in France, were exhibited in November 2003 at the Bank of Valletta main office in Sliema. They form part of Mr Chircop's perpetual movement of untitled songs without words, which reflects not only his technical mastery and his emotional depth but contains also this invisible spark that marks the difference between the great talent and the genius. However, this indefinable spark was already present in the portrait entitled Mamo (certainly the surname of the school mate) painted by the 11-year-old child prodigy named Alfred Chircop with an amazing technical virtuosity and huge expressiveness.
Later, it appears also in his figurative works like Self-Portrait and Philip My Brother and starts to flash in his scintillating abstract visions. This indefatigable creator still works with a juvenile ardour and strength. We are looking forward eagerly to seeing his next one-man show in Malta. This year, he was more present on the French scene than in his native country.
