Assessors who issue energy performance certificates for buildings have been instructed by the government not to issue any more certificates while the methodology is reviewed.

This had happened after it resulted that the methodology used to date was mistaken, the Opposition spokesman for the environment, Leo Brincat, said today.

He had first expressed his concerns about the methodology in a letter to The Times on March 24.

Such mistakes, he said, further confirmed government incompetence, this time to the detriment of property owners who had to pay the assessors and also pay a registration fee of €75.
