The Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment and the Ministry for Urban Development and Roads insisted yesterday that Sliema residents will be exempt from parking fees when the proposed residents parking zone (RPZ) is launched.

They said the possibility of charging residents for parking in Sliema was raised by the Qui-Si-Sana car park developer in the first meetings on the proposed development. "Since then, it has been made amply clear on several occasions that the developer cannot charge residents for parking in the RPZ.

This has also been repeated ad nauseam by the government. Moreover, this is in line with the development brief for the area and the government is committed to stick to this policy," the two ministries said.
