Attaché case sparks bomb alarm

The police and Armed Forces of Malta took no chances when an employee of an outlet selling mobile phones in Gzira reported finding an old attaché case on the doorstep of the shop, yesterday. The employee was about to open the shop in Gzira Road at 9 a.m.

The police and Armed Forces of Malta took no chances when an employee of an outlet selling mobile phones in Gzira reported finding an old attaché case on the doorstep of the shop, yesterday.

The employee was about to open the shop in Gzira Road at 9 a.m. when he noticed the case and became suspicious that it might be a bomb.

Police closed the approach streets and evacuated residents in the block overlying the shop until the Armed Forces of Malta bomb disposal unit had examined the case.

A mobile robot was used to break open the attaché case which was found to be empty. The operation was over by 11 a.m.
