A Qormi man was yesterday charged with trying to murder another when he fired a shotgun in his direction after a traffic collision.

Horace Azzopardi, 39, pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of Emanuel Schembri and threatening to kill him and his girlfriend, Doris Cachia, in Qormi on Sunday night.

Azzopardi also pleaded not guilty to causing over Lm50 damage to Schembri's car, carrying a firearm without a licence, firing it in a public place and breaching the peace. He was denied bail.

Inspectors Silvio Valletta and Maria Stella Cutajar prosecuted.

Dr David Farrugia Sacco appeared for Azzopardi.
