Augustinian Sisters celebrate feasts of Our Lady, St Catherine
Church and monastery St Catherine were built in 18th century to designs by Romano Carapecchia
The Augustinian Sisters of St Catherine’s monastery in Republic Street, Valletta, will be marking the feast of the Presentation of Our Lady on Friday. The rosary will be said on Thursday at 5.45pm, followed by the translation of the relic, sung vespers and sung Mass celebrated by monastery chaplain Fr Paul Muscat OSA.
Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 7.25am, followed by morning Psalms. Rosary at 6pm will be followed by sung mass led by Ta’ Pinu sanctuary rector Mgr Carmelo Refalo.
The same community will celebrate the feast of St Catherine, patron saint of the monastery, on Tuesday. Rosary on Monday at 5.45pm will be followed by the translation of the relic and sung mass celebrated by St Dominic parish priest Michael Camilleri. Mass will also be celebrated on Tuesday at 7.25am, including morning Psalms. Rosary will be said at 6pm, followed by sung Mass led by Augustinian provincial Leslie Gatt.
The church and monastery of St Catherine were built in the 18th century to designs by architect Romano Carapecchia. They replaced a previous monastery which had been housed in a 16th-century palace.
