The Australian Film Festival, being held as part of the second anniversary celebrations of the opening of St James Cavalier in Valletta, starts today.

The festival is also part of a global tour of Australian films, a project of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Australian Film Commission.

The films to be screened have won Australian as well as international film awards from events such as the Montreal World Film Festivals, Sundance Film Festival, Oporto International Film Festival (Fantasporto), Portugal, Berlin International Film Festival and, also, Temecula Valley International Film Festival.

The films are: The Sum of Us with Russell Crowe and Jack Thompson; Children of the Revolution, with Sam Neill, Judy Davis and Geoffrey Rush; Two Hands featuring Heath Ledger, Bryan Brown and Rose Byrne; My Mother Frank with Sam Neill and Sinead Cusack; Looking for Alibrandi introducing Anthony La Paglia, Greta Scacchi and Pia Miranda; and Kiss or Kill featuring Matt Day and Frances O'Connor.
