The Australian government will soon change its passports to enhance their integrity and security.
This means that full validity passports will not be available at short notice from the Australian High Commission in Malta.
Australian citizens will still be able to apply for passports in Malta and collect them from the High Commission in Ta' Xbiex. However, the passports will be produced in London, the process taking 10 days.
From December, to avoid any inconvenience, Australian citizens should apply for a passport in sufficient time to allow for this.
Passport holders should also continue to ensure that their current passport has sufficient validity (normally six months) to meet the visa requirements imposed by many countries.
Emergency, limited validity passports will be available for urgent, unavoidable travel.
A range of other changes have been made relating to document requirements for passport applications and steps required to demonstrate changes of name.
Details may be obtained from the Consular/Passport section of the Australian High Commission.
