AX Holdings Ltd has been recognised as the preferred bidder for the provision of alternative ways of transport in the harbour area after its submission was given the green light by Projects Malta.

The submission was the only one made after the call for expressions of interest issued by Projects Malta on behalf of the government in the summer. The proposal is for the provision of ferry services between Sliema, Valletta and the Three Cities using a tunnel under Valletta.

Projects Malta said today that the proposal met all requirements and AX Holdings were therefore being recognised as the preferred bidder.

Minister Konrad Mizzi, who is responsible for Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) said he was pleased that such a project would be financed and managed by the private sector.

Transport Minister Joe Mizzi said this was another measure taken by the government to promote alternative ways of transport.
