A three-month old striped dolphin found in a disoriented state at Qawra this morning has been placed in an inshore tank for monitoring by an expert veterinarian.
Nature Trust said in a statement the dolphin was probably separated from its mother. The dolphin also sustained cuts as waves kept pushing it against the rocks.
With the help of the Animal Welfare Department and the police, who went into the water to keep it stable, the dolphin was brought ashore and passed on to the Nature Trust Wildlife Rescue Team and the Malta Environment and Planning Authority, as the competent authority for protected species, and Anthony Gruppetta, as the expert vet, for examination.
The dolphin is now in an inshore tank for further monitoring and under Dr Gruppetta’s care.
