A baby giraffe called Gigi was shown to the public for the first time when she and her mother, Asali, joined their herd in their run around their enclosure at Houston Zoo.
Gigi was was born on August 31 in the McGovern Giraffe Habitat in the African Forest area of the zoo. She is 190.5 cm tall and weighs 72.57 kg.
The video shows the adults of the herd enthusiastically welcoming Gigi, licking and nuzzling her.
Gigi was named by a member of the Zoo's board of directors, Jim Postl, and his wife Beverly, who picked the name as an acronym of Girl Giraffe .
Postl won the opportunity to name Gigi at a charity event called the Zoo Ball which Houston Zoo holds every year to raise money for the Zoo's animal care and education programmes.
