The Malta and Gozo Restaurant Association yesterday downplayed the impact of September 11 on the reduction in tourism, saying that the downturn had started long before.
It said in a statement that the sector had declined since the record levels of 1994, and said that this was due to pollution, prevalent building sites, and bad publicity.
The association said that it would have expected the Tourism Minister and the Malta Tourism Authority to counter negative publicity, but this had not been done.
