A hunter was this afternoon granted bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €5,000 after he pleaded not guilty to shooting two protected birds and hunting during the closed season.

Alfred Desira, 65, from Marsascala, known as Fredu l-Indjan, also denied being in possession of protected species and relapsing.

He was arraigned before Magistrate Aaron Bugeja. Legal procurator Peter Paul Zammit appeared for the accused. Inspector Colin Sheldon prosecuted.
