A 22-year-old Zebbug man, charged with seriously injuring a doctor in the eye last month, was yesterday granted bail on condition he does not leave his home without the court's permission.

After hearing submissions made by Tommy Dimech's lawyers Ian Farrugia and Philip Galea Farrugia, Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera granted Dimech bail.

She bound him by a Lm1,000 deposit and a personal guarantee of Lm5,000.

Dimech is pleading not guilty to seriously injuring general practitioner Godfrey Farrugia in the face in Zebbug on November 19 at about 5 p.m., threatening his former wife, Diane Dimech, trying to seriously injure her mother Margaret Zammit, being in possession of a knife without a licence and breaching the peace.

The case continues.

Inspectors Maria Stella Cutajar and Carmelo Magri are prosecuting.
