Bail for man caught with drugs at home and in garage
Court
A 31-year-old Gozitan facing various drug-related charges after police found indications of drug trafficking at his Munxar apartment has been granted bail.
Godwin Attard was arrested after police searched his apartment and garage. They found a pouch containing three suspected sachets of heroin, cannabis and two MDMA pills in his bathroom, and a notebook indicating drug trafficking in his bedroom.
When police searched his garage, they found an additional 80g of cannabis. Inside a mobile kiosk he operates, they found various resealable sachets that Attard claimed he used for spices.
Attard was arrested and arraigned on charges related to aggravated possession of various drugs and breaching bail.
When he appeared in court this week, his lawyers requested bail.
The prosecution objected, noting that Attard stood accused of breaching previous bail conditions and could therefore not be trusted.
Defence lawyers argued that Attard was innocent until proven guilty and that the amount of drugs seized in the case was not substantial.
Magistrate Jean Paul Grech granted the accused bail against a deposit of €2,500 and a personal guarantee of €5,000.
Lawyer Tilden Tabone and Inspector Jonathan Pace prosecuted. Lawyers Franco Debono and Adreana Zammit assisted the accused.
