Bail for suspended police sergeant charged with misappropriating cab

In a previous sitting, court was told that Glen Carabott has a drug issue

A suspended police sergeant who was recently charged with misappropriating a cab was granted bail on Monday morning.

Glen Carabott, 45, is accused of misappropriating a cab and stealing the vehicle. He is also charged with being in possession of 1.23g of cocaine and having the drugs within 100 metres of a place where youths meet.

Additionally, he was charged with breaching his bail conditions and recidivism. In 2021, Carabott was granted bail after being charged with raping the victim of a burglary he was meant to assist.

He denies the charges.

Criminal proceedings against Carabott resumed on Monday morning when the alleged victim took the stand and explained that she employed him as a cab driver, but the man never worked using her vehicle. After two weeks without contacting the alleged victim, the woman wanted to get her car back and eventually filed a police report.

On Monday morning, Carabott was granted bail against a €200 deposit and a €6,800 personal guarantee.

He was ordered to sign the bail book every day, among other conditions.

Magistrate Kevan Azzopardi presided.

AG lawyer Martina Muscat prosecuted, assisted by police inspector Cheyenne Mangion.

Lawyers Nicholas Mifsud, Mario Mifsud and Edmond Cuschieri assisted Carabott.
