Bajd u Bejken host files criminal complaint over online paedophilia slur

'There is a limit to everything' - Max Vassallo says Facebook video crossed every line

The host of popular comedy podcast Bajd u Bejken has filed a criminal complaint against a person who accused him of being a paedophile and not being “right in the head”.

In a report to the police, Max Vassallo said a “line had been crossed” after Moraine Labandero posted a video on Facebook on July 29 in which she made a series of allegations, insults and threats including alleging that he was “interested in children”.

The six minute video, which has been shared 20 times amassing 254 comments and over 880 reactions, is “dedicated to Max tal bajd u bejken” (sic). In it, Labandero objected to Bajd u Bejken’s “obsession” with trans people and suggested that Vassallo is interested in paedophilia. She also said that he was “not normal”.

At one point she said "you do not need to be a psychologist to realise that you like children, Max" and called on the police to investigate him.

Replying to the numerous comments under the video, Labandero further suggested that Vassallo’s daughter should be checked hinting that he might have committed incest with his own daughter.

In his criminal complaint to the police, Vassallo noted that as a public figure he is subjected to insults, threats, and comments on a daily basis but “there is a limit to everything and in this case the limit has been reached in every possible way”.

In May, Bajd u Bejken landed in hot water for making a transphobic joke of social media personality Terry Muscat,  known as Terry ta' Bormla, during a live comedy show. That incident led to the resignation of podcast co-host JD Patrick after he apologised for the "hurt" caused.

Muscat had threatened to take legal action against the comedy team but then retracted, suggesting the show should donate money to charity instead.
