Two second-half goals from Adrian Mifsud and Noel Turner spoiled the party for the Balearic islands selection on Saturday night as Malta emerged 2-0 winners from a friendly marking the Spanish region side's first ever international appearance at Mallorca's Son Moix stadium.

It was the first positive result for Malta after five successive losses to Macedonia (A 0-5 friendly), Slovenia (A 0-3 EC), Israel (H 0-2 EC), France (H 0-4 EC) and Cyprus (A 1-2 EC).

There were two other friendlies involving Spanish regional sides last weekend.

A Catalan XI beat China 2-0 in Barcelona while a Basque country selection drew 1-1 with Macedonia in Bilbao.
