An information session on the European Capital of Culture 2018 will be held for stakeholders on Friday at the Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry in Republic Street, Valletta.

Local councils, artists, representatives of arts and cultural organisations, creative industries, the education sector, business and voluntary sectors are welcome to attend.

In 2018 Malta will have the responsibility of hosting the European Capital of Culture along with a city representing the Netherlands, in one of the most prestigious and internationally visible cultural initiatives of the EU.

The title of European Capital of Culture is aimed at promoting cultural excellence and encouraging localities to put culture at the heart of development and innovation, proving that culture is essential to city life, regeneration, education, the economy and social inclusion. The session will include an introduction by Culture Parliamentary Secretary Mario de Marco, followed by a presentation by Jacqueline Pacaud from the European Commission DG for Education and Culture.
