This weekend's waterpolo 7up league programme is likely to bring to an end the litany of one-sided, high-scoring matches between the big guns and the so-called minnows as from next week the championship will see the likely division one participants facing each other.

The derby between Neptunes and San Giljan is the highlight of today's programme. Although the Reds start as clear favourites to maintain their perfect record, San Giljan could give their more-quoted opponents a good run for their money.

Last week, Tony Camilleri's men found little difficulty in disposing of Ta' Xbiex 19-4. On the other hand, San Giljan were involved in the first draw of the season when they were held to a 6-6 stalemate by Exiles.

Sirens and Marsascala are also set for another easy ride this evening when they entertain Ta' Xbiex and Otters respectively. Bruno Cofino's men last week were in a class of their own as they hammered Marsaxlokk 14-0. On their part, Marsascala thrashed Valletta 25-1.

The Gozitans will be hoping for a more respectable scoreline against Marsascala. In their 17-2 defeat to Sliema, Otters' goalkeeper Reuben Grech earned praise for his fine goalkeeping and today he is set for another busy outing.

Tomorrow, Sliema should maintain their impressive march when they play Marsaxlokk.

The most balanced match of the weekend should be the duel between Exiles and Valletta. If their recent performances are anything to go by, the Sliema outfit should hold the upperhand on opponents who have yet to score a point this season and have only scored a meagre four goals.

Today: 5 p.m. Sirens vs Ta' Xbiex; 6 p.m. Neptunes vs San Giljan; 7 p.m. Marsascala vs Otters. Tomorrow: 6 p.m. Valletta vs Exiles; 7 p.m. Marsaxlokk vs Sliema.
