Balzan broke little sweat to defeat Qormi 4-2 and secure their first win of the season at the Tedesco Stadium.
Balzan were forced to bank on their shooting capabilities as they find it hard to slide inside the eighteen. However, the first time they managed to crack Qormi’s defensive line, Balzan earned a penalty after Lubos Adamec tripped Majdevac.
Kadu took charge from the spot and sent Azzopardi the wrong way to net Balzan’s first goal of the season.
Balzan made their pressure count on minute 56 when Ivan Bozovic sent a curling effort from the right-hand side which ended up right in the far post behind Azzopardi.
Last year’s title challengers extended their lead through Majdevac’s second goal of the club, who after receiving from Ljubomirac, rounded past Azzopardi to send the ball into an empty net.
Qormi pulled one back through substitute Luke Busuttil, who profited from a Balzan mistake at the back and had the simplest of tasks in putting the ball into an empty net.
However, Balzan managed to regain their three-goal lead a quarter from time, when Majdevac beat the offside trap and unlocked Alves who just slotted the ball into the net to seal the first win of the championship for the Reds.
In the closing stages of the game, Tensior Gusman scored Qormi's second goal of the game to make the score far more respectable.
Andrija Majdevac of Balzan was named the BOV Player of the match.
