Balzan 3; Mosta 0

Balzan made it eight wins in a row when they eased past Mosta 3-0 at the Hibs Stadium.

It was Mosta who enjoyed the better start and inside the opening minute they almost took the lead when Ice Cream Guobadia’s througball put Godwin Mensah clear but the Nigerian was denied by the onrushing Christian Cassar.

Balzan finally threatened on 27 minutes when from a free-kick action, Justin Grioli’s cross-shot had the better of Omar Borg but Adrian Borg was on hand to clear off the line.

But six minutes later Balzan struck. Effiong picked Vujacic inside the area and the lanky forward quickly set up Lydon Micallef who drilled a low shot past Borg.

Mosta were stunned and a minute from time they conceded again. Effiong burst into the area but his low drive was palmed away by Borg into the path of Vujacic who bundled the ball home.

Balzan took eight minutes into the second half to wrap up the points when Paul Fenech picked up a loose ball and hit a ferocious drive that gave no chance to Borg.
Spiteri’s men almost added a fourth on the hour when Clive Brincat’s header had the better of Borg but Fatai Alabi was on hand to clear off the line.

In stoppage time, Paul Fenech was unlucky to see his inswinger come off the bar before Mosta cleared.

Balzan midfielder Paul Fenech was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
