Band clubs to enjoy €50,000 grant each for works on their properties

The new scheme will be issued every year in October

Every band club in Malta is being given the opportunity to apply for a grant of up to €50,000 for works on its property, the government said on Wednesday.

It said the Department of Public Works has reached an agreement with the National Association of Band Clubs aimed at ensuring that the government continues to provide support and assistance to band clubs.

The scheme will be launched every October for the next five years, allowing band clubs to apply for funding for improvement and maintenance projects for their premises.

"Every band club in Malta may apply for a project not exceeding €50,000."

Over the past few years the government also bought various properties from landlords to save band clubs from eviction following landmark court rulings. The properties were then leased back to the clubs at affordable rates. Among them was the property housing the King's Own Band Club in Valletta, acquired by the government for €9.2 million and then handed back to the club.
