The man who was arrested by the police after he allegedly broke into the HSBC branch in Msida on January 27 is Chinese and not Japanese, according to Malta's Consul to Japan Hubert Mifsud.

The nationality of the intruder had been given by the police as being Japanese.

The 22-year-old man had claimed he was only looking for food and a place to rest, saying he had lost his passport and had nowhere to stay.
