Two masked robbers attacked an armoured money van in Moscow yesterday, killing two men and stealing more than $1 million, officials said.
The two robbers opened fire on bank workers as they carried cash towards the van from a branch of Vneshprombank, and fled with their haul in a car parked nearby. "They stole 980,000 dollars, 20,000 euros and 8,000 roubles," said Sergei Marchenko from the Moscow Prosecutors office, in televised comments.
Interfax news agency reported that the raid was almost identical to one conducted in Russia's second city of St Petersburg five days ago, when two attackers got away with around 10 million roubles ($350,000).
