The police are searching for two men who partially blinded a 28-year-old barman following an unprovoked attack in Buġibba late on Saturday night.
Ryan Magro is being treated in hospital for serious eye injuries after a man, smashed a beer pint glass in his face at Munchies Bar.
Friends and family members who witnessed the incident told Times of Malta that the incident was sparked off after one of the aggressors was "politely" asked to return the next day after he looked inebriated and started picking on patrons.
"Ryan had nothing to do with them. He was just standing at the bar door smoking a cigarette when one of the men walked out of the bar and smashed a glass in his face," a friend said.
Patrons and colleagues chased after the two men who managed to flee from site. At least one of the suspects is believed to be a Serbian national.
Mr Magro was rushed to hospital but by this morning ophthalmologist informed the family that he had "almost certainly" lost sight from his left eye.
Meanwhile, CCTV images have been released asking the public to try help identify the aggressors.
"This really happened for no reason. The attack was totally unprovoked," the victim's mother Nathalie, told Times of Malta.
Ryan Magro is well known in the music scene, and plays guitar for Malta's Eurovision singer Claudia Fanniello as well as Ozzy Lino.
