The roof over the Upper Barrakka Gardens was removed at around 1775 after the area was allegedly used by some knights to conspire against the Grand Master.

But a section of the gardens got a temporary, transparent roof last week when the event support services section of the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre inaugurated a number of gazebos with see-through roofs.

The gazebos were used during a reception for a large group of Italians who were here on an incentive tour organised by the Malta Tourism Authority and Air Malta.

MFCC said the new gazebos afforded the guests shelter from the evening chill, while enabling them to enjoy a star studded night.
