Does compliance with EU standards not include basic passenger safety in public transport?

It is disgraceful that in 2002 the law and the Public Transport Authority permit public buses to run without a door at their exit.

It is even more disgraceful that many such buses are permitted to be used daily to transport children to and from schools. The unfortunate accident in Lija, when an elderly lady was thrown out of a bus, while swerving, should serve as a serious eye-opener.

One would think that a door at an exit is a basic safety feature, equally important to seat-belts and crash helmets.
