Siggiewi landed their first piece of silverware this season when they won the MBA Shield after surprisingly defeating Pembroke 71-52 yesterday. Jeffrey Gatt was the protagonist for the winners as he was a dominant figure under the boards to help his side go in for the break 36-21 ahead. Pembroke were stunned and tried to close all gaps as the match restarted, but Siggiewi were in no mood for favours and with Nathan Farrugia in prolific form, potting 23 points, Ray Muscat's team cruised to their third MBA Shield success and made up for their Super Cup upset against Joe Galea's Reds earlier this season. MBA president Antonio Mizzi presented the winners' trophy to Siggiewi captain John Dowty after the match.
