Last Sunday I watched a programme on the Maltese TV. The views that concerned me were those of the bastions around Valletta, Senglea and Fort St Elmo. There were other areas which I am not sure of.

Those bastions, which are almost an icon in the island, are in a pitiful state. I could see large bushes hanging from cracks in them and even on the flat top of the bastions.

Surely a good dose of weed killer would eradicate those unsightly weeds forever. Then seal the cracks with concrete.

These days there are safe abseiling harnesses and ropes that would make the job safe to tackle. A few extra euros to the workers would be an encouragement.
