The Central Bank of Malta has issued two limited edition numismatic coins, in gold and silver, depicting the Auberge de Bavière. This will be the fifth and final in the series of coins on the auberges of the Knights of St John.

Palazzo Carnerio, known today as the Auberge de Bavière, was built in 1696 by Portuguese knight Gaspare Carnerio. It was purchased for the use of the Anglo-Bavarian Langue, set up in 1782 during the rule of Grand Master De Rohan. During World War I, the Auberge de Bavière was converted into a hospital and was later used as a school.

Today it houses the Government Property Department.

The gold coin has a face value of €15 and the silver coin of €10. The coins were struck at the Royal Belgian Mint, and were designed and engraved by Noel Galea Bason.
