The enforcement of a law banning dogs from swimmers' zones for hygienic purposes was met with public uproar last summer.

The same law also bans domestic pets from sandy beaches.

Dog poo is a source of high levels of bacteria and can lead to reduced water quality, and also poses a human health risk.
