After having written and highlighted this problem last year, I expected that the situation would have improved for this summer. I was totally wrong. These beach concessions are still taking our beaches with all possible beach furniture.

I have lately read the correspondence and related articles in The Times. It seems that, all of a sudden, something is taking place. First we read a letter from a gentleman who recounted his adventure at Ghadira. Then we had an article, in which the Authorities are saying that they are going to curb all abuses that have been taking place for all these years. At last.

In the August 31 edition of The Times, we find two items related to this problem: a letter from Romano Cassar highlighting this problem, and on another page we get the reaction of Alternattiva Democratica.

I would suggest to AD that they organise a beach protest to make sure that, once the momentum is gained, there is no turning back.

At last something seems to be moving, slowly, but at least moving. We just hope that all this is not an end of summer mirage but something to look forward to, to next summer. (Piero Selvaggi)

Indeed Piero Selvaggi has been writing about this issue for years and I must encourage readers who share his views on this issue to join him.
