I refer to the letter Putting Things Right (August 9) and would like to reiterate that security officers patrolling the beach at St George's Bay at night as part of the MTA's beach management arrangement have been given strict instructions to report illegal activities, such as those mentioned in the letter, to the police, which ultimately have the executive role to enforce the law.

The bins currently found along the promenade are a temporary measure until more suitable ones are delivered later on this month. The cleaning of the promenade and emptying of the bins is being carried out by the St Julians local council. This will shortly be supplemented by an additional service that will be provided by the beach cleaning section of the Department of Tourism.

As regards parking, appropriate parking bays have been designated in this area. Local wardens and police officers ensure that cars are parked in such parking bays.
