Odette Cauchi, 21, the current Miss Republic of Malta, received a cash sponsorship from Laurie Galea, director of the Oracle Casino, where she works as a slot cashier.

The presentation, at the Delphie Brasserie, was held before Ms Cauchi went to Paris to take part in the 56th Miss Europe Pageant being held on Friday.

Over 40 countries are taking part in the pageant.
