The Gozo Business Chamber has appealed to the authorities to ensure against an irregular Gozo Channel ferry service in the high tourist season, especially during peak times of the day when people crossing over need to be on time for work and appointments.

The situation was resulting in certain scheduled trips not being performed, the chamber said.

The chamber, together with the Gozo Tourism Association, appealed to the government to look into the matter to find a solution very quickly.

The rise in ferry fares meant that a full service was expected. "We also expect the authorities to see that the baggage trolley service is on offer all the time and not only during part of the day," the chamber added.

Both the Gozo Business Chamber and the Gozo Tourism Association expressed preoccupation about the irregular cargo ferry service operating from Sa Maison and about the Mgarr terminal project, work on which seems to have stopped. This has resulted in an eyesore, which greets the visitor on arrival in Gozo. Tourists' first impression of a holiday destination definitely deserved better, the chamber argued.
