Beware: Temperature set to feel like 35°C this week, met office warns

The UV index is set to reach level 10

The Met Office has issued a warning as the temperature is set to reach 33°C and feel like 35°C from Monday through to Thursday.

The UV index is set to reach level 10 - considered very high - and drop slightly to 9 on Thursday before going back up to 10 for Friday and the rest of the weekend.

Earlier this month, the Malta International Office's Met Office had already warned that the average temperatures had gone slightly above the climatic norm. The temperature for spring stood at 17.3°C, which was 0.5°C above the climatic average.

The Met Office had also noted that the first week of the meteorological summer (starts on June 1) had seen maximum temperatures ranging between 30°C and 32°C, with the UV index having reached level 10.

Malta is not the only country experiencing high temperatures so early this summer.

Much of Europe is preparing for a fierce heatwave to intensify even further in the coming days, with some countries taking special measures to mitigate its effects, including closing schools and cancelling trains.

France recorded heat-related deaths over the weekend.
