Taste Good Bar player Duncan Bezzina tasted the first success of the Malta Pool Association season with an 8-6 win in the final of the opening ranking tournament against Ivan Rizzo, of Top Gun Bar.

All matches were played at Zejtun's Pandora club. In all, 114 players took part.

In the semi-final, Bezzina faced a stern challenge from Hibs Pavilion player Ray Demanuele, who lost 7-6. Rizzo had the better of Joseph Camilleri (Jesmond SC) 7-4 in the semi-final.

The U-18 ranking tournament winner was Miguel Falzon, also of Top Gun Bar.

In a tense final he beat Cospicua Rangers' cueist Kirsten Camilleri 6-5. Both were making their first appearance in the final stages of a ranking tournament.

The second Open ranking event from a series of four started this week. The association will also hold two ranking events for female players and four others for the U-18 category.
