Bible Sunday today

Bible Sunday is being celebrated in Malta and Gozo today on the initiative of the Malta Bible Society.

This year's theme focuses on a verse from the Book of Psalms: "I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word, I put my hope."

This theme proposes both a challenge and hope. A challenge to the individual, to churches and to groups who use the Word of God regularly but whose initiatives, life and programmes of evangelisation many times still lack the impact of the Gospel Message.

The theme offers hope to everyone: to those who labour in the field of the Lord and encounter so many problems that hinder their spirit; to those who feel abandoned in life; to those who feel they want to love God and do not know how; to those who feel they have failed God. The Word of God offers the hope and courage one needs to stand up and start again.

The Malta Bible Society is promoting this message through published material that has been distributed in parishes, groups, households and also in schools.

A special package has been prepared for schoolchildren. It consists of interactive material, charts, games, colouring material and a newspaper that will be given free to each child. The theme of this interesting package is based on the story of Noah's Ark and that of Isaac and Rebecca who come from Nigeria and who are suffering because of the floods in their country.
