The Dun Guzepp Zammit Brighella Lyceum and the Association of Lyceum Past Students are holding a 50-hour bicycle marathon in the school ground between March 26-28.

Money raised during the marathon, being held under the patronage of the Malta Community Chest Fund, will be in aid of children suffering from cancer.

The activity will start on the Friday from the Granaries in Floriana, from where the participants will cycle to the lyceum, where the marathon will continue.

The theme of the marathon will be "From Children to Children" and the aim is to foster in students a sense of solidarity towards youngsters in need and to raise funds to alleviate the psychological trauma which parents and siblings of these children suffer during the treatment period.

Between 8.30 am. and 12.30 p.m. on the Saturday there will be a mobile blood donation unit at the lyceum where persons over 16 will be encouraged to donate blood.

Other activities during the three days include a variety show featuring leading singers and artists, a static show of old cars and motorcycles on the Sunday, various exhibitions and displays of martial arts, a police dog show, and abseiling by Scouts.

The Red Cross is also launching a national campaign for cyclists and pedestrians to adhere to rules and road safety on the Saturday at 10 a.m.

Donations can be made through bank accounts HSBC 023140569050, BoV 400125 85201, APS 20000084991 and Lombard 01440503334. Cheques are to be addressed Maratona tar-Roti '04 Liceo.
