The Malta Transport Authority (ADT) is to take measures to reduce the waiting time sometimes required to renew road vehicle licences at the Licensing and Testing Directorate, in Floriana.

Expressing regret for any inconvenience caused, the authority said it would soon deploy a system that would enable insurance companies to renew licences online.

It will also improve its customer care desk, increase the number of counter assistants serving the public at the end of each month and erect a temporary structure to create shade outside the building.

The ADT added that the problem of queues was also created because of the general trend of people renewing their licences towards the end of the month.

It said it had advised customers on various occasions to renew their licences earlier. In fact, it has launched an incentive programme for persons renewing their licences early; people who do so are eligible to participate in a quarterly lottery that would entitle them to a free, new, personalised, eight-character registration plate of their choice.
