A hinted-at bid to encourage the European Medicines Agency to relocate from London to Malta has received the "full support" of the Malta Chamber of Commerce.
"Such an initiative finds the full support of the Chamber of Commerce as it mirrors its ambitions for Malta," the Chamber said in a statement issued today.
Consumer Affairs Minister Helena Dalli had raised the prospect of the agency being lured to Malta some weeks back, while inaugurated the Malta Medicines Authority's new premises.
At the time, Dr Dalli had noted that the UK's Brexit vote might eventually force the European Medicines Agency to look for a new headquarters.
"The Chamber is confident that Malta has all the necessary requirements to fulfil its obligations to host such an agency," it said in its statement.
It listed several advantages Malta could offer the European agency, from Malta's overall safety to its high-quality hotels, range of international schools, free childcare and advantageous working conditions.
"As it has done on previous occasions, the Chamber pledges its full support to this bid. It also encourages a concerted national effort of all the social partners and the private and public sector to work towards a successful conclusion to this project," it said.
