The Marsa Sports Club and its ancillary Royal Malta Golf Club are at loggerheads over the proposed amount required to maintain a fitting environment for golf and to develop better facilities.
An extraordinary general meeting is being held at the Marsa Sports Club today at 6.30 p.m. to vote on the final amount to be paid by the Royal Malta Golf Club.
The debate started when the club was offered a 49-year lease at Lm30,000 a year by the government. The lease obliges the club to grant the golf club a "right of use" of recognised boundaries of the golf course and its facilities, which take up 80 per cent of the total Marsa Club area.
The golf club should by right, based on its proportion of the club usage, pay Lm24,203 of the total, a circular to members issued by Marsa Sports Club chairman Tony Cilia Pisani said.
Mr Cilia Pisani said the disagreement on the final amount had led to a militant stance by certain factions within the club and he was calling on all members to attend today's meeting to resolve the issue in the best interest of "one club".
