The first European launch of the Ssangyong Rodius was held earlier this month at the Michael Attard Showroom in Blata l-Bajda.

Saying that the car is big is an understatement but the Rodius is as imposing outside as it is inside, seating seven people (any size), and with a lot of room for storage guaranteed to make any trip, short or long, as comfortable as it could ever get.

One innovation is that the two seats in the middle row can easily swivel to face the back seat.

Based on the platform of the Chairman, the Rodius is powered by a Mercedes Benz 2.7-litre common rail four-cylinder turbo-diesel CRD unit (165 bhp), which could be mated to a five-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox at an extra cost.

Speaking to journalists at the launch, Michael Attard said he "is confident that Maltese MPV buyers will be turned on to the impressive and unique quality, styling and fuel economy benefits the Rodius will bring them".

SsangYong is the first Korean car manufacturer to use both design and data management solutions from IBM for planning and design to production.

The SsangYong is a premium MPV, having luxury saloon sophistication, some of the most advanced passive and active safety features and futuristic high-tech interior styling. It is by far the biggest MPV on the local market, measuring 5,120 mm by 1,910 mm.

Starting at Lm15,600, the first consignment of Rodius has been sold, but you can see the car at the Michael Attard stand at the Motor Fair at the end of the month. You can also call for a test drive.
