With operating costs reaching about €1 million (Lm429,300) a year, Razzett tal-Ħbiberija sometimes finds it difficult to make ends meet.
"Our aim is to break even but at times our costs are so high that this does not happen. The surplus we have, if at all, is always re-invested in our programmes. We strive to give children who depend on us a better quality of life," the park's chief executive officer, Nathan Farrugia, said yesterday.
He was launching what he described as the park's biggest fund-raising event so far. It will take place between midday and midnight on June 7.
Gordon Pace, the park's head of fund raising, said Charity12 will be a 12-hour televised fund-raising marathon.
The concept behind the event is explained in the slogan: What Would You Do For Charity?
"We would like people, friends, colleagues and families to get together and come up with creative ideas to raise money," he said.
The event will revolve solely on charity and no prizes or gifts will be linked to the donations and this with the aim that people better understand the concept of donating to a charitable cause such as Razzett tal-Ħbiberija.
TVM, Net TV, One TV, Smash TV, Education 22 and Melita Channel 30 will be televising the event.
Money can be donated via telephone or SMS: €15 can be donated by calling 5004 9095 (the number will be activated in the coming days) and a €6.99 donation can be made via SMS on 5061 8926, the number already having been activated.
Fabrizio Faniello, Jean Claude Micallef, Svetlana Muscat and Pauline Agius will host the event.
