Television news the other evening confirmed something that I've always maintained, that the Maltese are not wasteful and are very aware of the amount of water and electricity they use.

It was confirmed by a spokesman for Enemalta (TVM, 8 p.m. news, January 6) that the Maltese are the lowest consumers of water in the European Union, and that probably goes for electricity as well. Just goes to show that all this nonsense spouted about the need for us to use less of these commodities, and hence one of the reasons for raising prices is plain hogwash. We can't use less, even if we wanted to. What's more, single persons living alone are being penalised.
