The opening concert of the Bir Miftuh Music Festival organised annually by Din l-Art Helwa will take place in the historic chapel of Santa Marija ta` Bir Miftuh on May 25 at 8 p.m.

The concert is held with the support of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura.

A rare combination concert will be given by the duo Michele Mo on the flute, and Francesco Biraghi who plays the guitar.

Michele Mo graduated at the Accademia Superiore Lorenzo Perozi of Biella under the guidance of Peter Lukas Graf.

Winner of various national and international competitions, he specialised in contemporary music and has performed for the first time works by Morricone, Correggia and Bosco and has taken part in important festivals of contemporary music.

To his credit he has various radio and television recordings and for many years he has been active in the organisation of post-graduate courses. Presently he is first flute and artistic director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Turin and professor of flute at the Istituto Pareggiato of Aosta.

Francesco Biraghi took master classes with Oscar Ghiglia and with Hopkinson Smith. He soon started an important international concert career performing in more than 40 countries all over the world. During concert tours he often holds seminars and lectures on guitar and chamber music.

Apart from radio and TV broadcasts he has various CD recordings with very good reviews in specialised publications.

The programme comprises music by Theodor W. Gaude, Mauro Giuliani, Celso Machado, David Leisner, Bela Bartok and Astor Piazzolla.
