Birkirkara 5km Road Running Series

Gerald Grech and Carol Galea should live up to their favourites' tags in the final race of the second Birkirkara 5km Road Running Series organised by Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club and the Birkirkara Local Council.

The final event will be held at the club's home town on Monday, starting at 9 a.m. in front of the Local Council offices and proceeding towards the Birkirkara by-pass which will be closed for traffic during the race.

Notwithstanding the race's undulating route, no surprises are expected for Grech and Galea to complete a double after winning the MAAA's 10k Road Running League.

Grech's main rivals are a force to be reckoned with though, with the likes of Mark Herrera, Charles Cilia and Drew Lang also in the fray.

In the women's section, Galea's crown is less under threat, although Lisa Marie Bezzina's timings over the distance are quite impressive.

The race series carries a prize money fund of Lm250 and Lm120 worth of vouchers. The overall winners will be awarded a trophy besides other mementoes for participants.
