Birkirkara scored two goals in each half to see off Naxxar Lions 4-0 at the National Stadium this afternoon.

The Stripes took the lead as early as the seventh minute.

Cain Attard delivered a cross towards Matija Smrekar who sent a firm header past the diving Gallinetta.

Birkirkara continued to pour more men forward and on 13 minutes they were awarded a free-kick on the left channel. Goran Mujanovic sent a dipping cross at the far post where Mauricio Mazzetti nodded into the path of Camenzuli who blasted the ball into the roof of the net.

On 31 minutes minutes Mujanovic threatened again when he was released by Frank Temile but the Croatian fired wide of the upright.

Naxxar finally threatened on the hour.

In a quick break Eduardo Vallecillo’s low shot was deflected just wide. From the resultant corner-kick Daren Falzon’s inswinger was palmed away by Miroslav Kopric.

But it was Birkirkara who wrapped up the points 11 minutes from time.

Camenzuli sent a precise througball towards Edmond Agius, who had just replaced Temile, and he planted the ball past Gallinetta.

Birkirkara added a fourth goal in stoppage time when in a swift break Zarate beat Gallinetta with a low drive to seal a comfortable day for the Stripes.

Birkirkara’s Ryan Camenzuli was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
