The first phase of the women's championship was completed last weekend with a three-match programme.

Birkirkara finished two points behind leaders Hibernians after beating Melita 3-0 in a match that was originally scheduled for January 30 but was postponed due to inclement weather.

Mosta chalked up their sixth win of the season at the expense of Rabat Ajax while Sta Venera and Raiders figured in a drab goalless draw.

The teams will now play in the Championship and Relegation Pools with their point tallies halved, a format similar to the Premier League.

Hibs, Birkirkara, Melita and Mosta play in the top pool. Raiders, Sta Venera and Rabat are in the second tier of the league.

Birkirkara's points at the expense of Melita were crucial for the Stripes. They finished with 31 points but start one point short of rivals Hibs in the Championship Pool.

Catherine Camilleri gave Birkirkara a two-goal cushion by the end of the first half. Eleonora Agliano sealed the points with a third goal on 75 minutes.

In Sunday's opening match, Mosta beat Rabat 3-0. Jane Coates (2) and Tiziana Fenech scored for Mosta.

Sunday's matches: 9 a.m. Raiders vs Sta Venera; 11 a.m. Hibs vs Birkirkara.
